Icefire Warhymn League guide: set three formations before the bracket starts

Icefire Warhymn League is a week-long solo tournament. The important work happens before the first match: sign up on time, build all three formations, order them deliberately, and keep checking the event screen as the field narrows from qualifier rounds to the final bracket.

How the event works

After signing up, each chief prepares a squad made of three formations. The qualifier phase uses scheduled automatic matchups, then surviving players advance into elimination and pinnacle rounds. Because matches resolve from prepared lineups, the guide priority is not only account power. It is preparation, formation order, and checking lock times before every round.

Hero selection and troop ratios

After all three formations exist, tune each one around the hero, troop type, and matchup you expect. The examples below use infantry/lancer/marksman order.

Pick built PvP heroes first
A famous hero name is not enough if that hero is underbuilt.
  • Prioritize heroes with strong star level, gear, widgets, and expedition skills over a lower-built theoretical pick.
  • If newer-generation heroes with better skills are unlocked and built, prefer them for the ratio they fit: Mia is a strong 49/2/49 example, Greg is a strong 6/4/0 example, and Jasmine can still be tested when she is one of your best options.
  • Spread your best heroes across three formations instead of making one perfect team and two easy losses.
49/2/49 balanced template
Infantry/lancer/marksman ratio for two-type pressure.
  • Use 49/2/49 when infantry and marksmen are your reliable damage and durability base.
  • This is a natural place to test Mia when she is a better-built or newer-generation option than your older infantry/marksman setup.
  • Raise lancers only if your lancer stats, hero fit, or battle reports justify it.
6/4/0 two-type template
Infantry/lancer/marksman ratio for a focused matchup.
  • Use 6/4/0 when you intentionally want infantry and lancers only, with no marksmen in that formation.
  • This is a natural place to test Greg when his skills and generation make him stronger than forcing a marksman-heavy or older mixed setup.
  • It is easier to counter than a broader mix, so review losses before using it as your default for every formation.

Sign-Up: Monday and Tuesday

Open the event, sign up, and edit your squad. If you wait until matches begin, you may be stuck with a weak or incomplete setup.

Qualifier: Wednesday

The official wiki lists up to 10 scheduled qualifier rounds and elimination after 3 defeats. Check match windows and make sure formations are locked before each round.

Elimination: Thursday

The top qualifier players move into a best-of-3 bracket. Review opponents when available and adjust order before the lock window.

Pinnacle: Friday and Saturday

The final players continue through best-of-3 rounds until the season champion is decided. Even if you are out, predictions and missions can still matter.

  • Set heroes and troops for all three formations before the qualifier starts.
  • The official wiki says auto-fill uses your strongest trainable troops, but manual setup is safer than trusting defaults.
  • Lineups can lock shortly before a round, so make changes early instead of at the last minute.
Use order as strategy
Formations deploy in the order you set.
  • Put formations in an order that matches your goal: start strong, bait, or save a closer for later.
  • Do not assume the highest-power lineup is always the best first lineup if best-of-3 order matters.
  • After each phase, review whether your first loss came from order, hero mismatch, or pure power gap.
Balance power across three fights
One huge formation cannot carry every round.
  • Avoid putting every strong hero and troop advantage into only one formation.
  • Use your best PvP heroes where their expedition skills and troop type fit the formation.
  • Match troop quality and formation purpose instead of sending random leftovers to the second and third teams.

How to play the week

Icefire Warhymn League rewards players who prepare early and check the event repeatedly, even though the battles themselves are automated.

Before Wednesday

Sign up, set the squad, check heroes and troop tiers, and confirm the displayed match times in your local time zone.

During rounds

Open the event before lock, review the next opponent if shown, adjust formation order, and avoid changing account gear or buffs without checking whether they affect the event.

After losses

Do not only blame power. Check whether one formation is too weak, whether order exposed your worst matchup, or whether a stronger hero should move to another slot.

Missions, predictions, and shop

Tournament progress is not the only value. Watch the side systems so you do not leave event currency or simple rewards unclaimed.

League missions

Check missions during the event week and claim them before reset. Missions and battles can provide Warhymn Testaments according to the official wiki.

Predictions

If you are eliminated or not competing at the top, predictions can still keep the event relevant. Pick before the cutoff shown in game.

League shop

Spend event currency based on your account bottleneck. Confirm the current shop list in game before planning around a specific item.

Common mistakes

Most avoidable losses come from missing setup, not from one surprising matchup.

Signing up but not organizing any lineup, which the official wiki warns can cause an automatic defeat.
Relying on auto-fill even though hero choice, troop fit, and order can decide close matchups.
Overloading one formation and leaving the second or third formation unable to win.
Trying to edit after the lineup lock window instead of making changes early.
Keeping the same order after repeated losses without checking which formation is failing first.
Forgetting missions, predictions, or shop claims after being eliminated from the bracket.
